O’Shaughnessy

CBM had a great turn out July 12 on O’Shaughnessy, the weather was a little bit of everything.  Dry and calm for a short time at the start, then the rain began, then the wind began to blow and finally clearing and sunshine.  The fisherman that makes the right adjustments through the day catches the fish.

Jeff Leonard made all the right adjustments.  He drew as a non-boater with Scott Gordon and immediately began his day landing a 4 pound catfish on and black and blue chatter bait.  Not less than 15 minute later he had another catfish slam it near the boat but came off.  Once the rain started Scott quickly boated 2 keepers on a white and chartreuse spinner bait.  Then caught another short fish, when Jeff said I hate spinner baits and he changed to white and chartreuse chatter bait and landed his first fish from front of the boat.  Again Jeff made all the right adjustments to bring home a limit, he even had to tell me what a pain it is to cull fish with culling scale.  How I wish I had the problem on Sunday.  Jeff had a great day and landed a nice smallmouth which was big fish for the day weighing 2.69 pounds.

How to Land a Fish

A little education is good for us all.  Learning how to land a fish is not difficult, but remember to be careful, for both you and the fish. As your fish gets closer to the boat, drop your entire rod and reel to your waist. If the fish goes under the boat, get your rod tip in the water and follow it. If you can see the fish, you’ll know when it’s tired. It’ll roll over on its side to let you know it’s ready to be landed
